The passive voice is not generally used in Kwéyòl. Passive forms are usually expressed in the active voice.
The mouse was killed by the cat. (passive voice) Chat-la tjwé souwi-a. (active voice) The money was stolen by her husband. Mawi’y vòlè lajan’y. In cases where the subject is not clear, yo is used. The man was murdered. Yo tjwé nonm-lan. Some exceptions include sentences which use the verb to get, or to find oneself (twapé). He got hurt in an accident. I twapé kò’y blésé adan an aksidan. She became pregnant. I twapé kò’y ansent. |
