Sa Ka Fèt? (What's happening?
This blog is an accumulation of Kwéyòl tweets, posts, memes, quotes, jokes, and other resources, which I have shared across various social media platforms over the years. I started this mission in 2014 in an effort to promote the proper writing of the Kwéyòl language, which I found very easy to learn, and also to improve my ability as a Kwéyòl speaker.
Kwéyòl has historically been transmitted orally. However, an orthography was developed and introduced in 2001, along with a Kwéyòl dicitionary which was spearheaded by the Ministry of Education in Saint Lucia. The majority of St. Lucians have still not yet embraced the proper writing system.
The Saint Lucian Kwéyòl is a French-based creole that is also spoken in other countries like Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana, Haiti, Louisiana, Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion. Kwéyòl is also spoken in St. Maarten, parts of Trinidad and Grenada.
Here you will find ample opportunity to practice your reading and writing, as well as to learn more about the language. Keep checking for regular updates.
